REGISTRATION

COURSES

Participation
When registering for the Winter Institute for Women, you are invited to sign up for one of the six courses on offer, with the intention of staying with that same course through the entire week. There will be no provision for changing courses or moving between courses taking snippets from each.
The aim is for a collegiate atmosphere to develop quickly in each course so that participants have the experience of working together over a concentrated period of time, encouraging each other and discovering what is possible when determined women come together to focus on a single issue.

Numbers
Due to the fact that large classes are not conducive to lively participation, course numbers will be limited.

Preferences
When filling out your registration form, you are asked to nominate your first, second and third preferences. While your first preference cannot be guaranteed, please be assured that every effort will be made to place you in that course.
Prior to the start of the Institute, all participants will be notified of the course they are in.

REGISTRATION FEES

The cost of registration for the week is $390 ($280 concession) inclusive of GST, and covers attendance at all sessions. Meals are at the participant's own cost (although those staying on-campus will have meals provided as part of their accommodation package).

Registration refunds, less administration fee of $66 (incl. GST), will be available up to 25 June. No refunds will be given after that date.

The Institute Dinner will incur an additional cost of $40 (see below) and will include an after-dinner speaker.

ACCOMMODATION

All participants are encouraged to choose on-campus accommodation at James Cook University (see Accommodation page for details) and to indicate same on the registration form. Bookings will be arranged by the organising collective but payment will be made directly to the College concerned. It is requested that the full cost of accommodation be paid at check-in.

WINTER INSTITUTE DINNER

The Winter Institute Dinner will be held on Saturday evening, 17 July, commencing at 7.00pm. Details of venue, entertainment and after-dinner speaker will be announced here on the website as soon as arrangements are finalised.

Cost of the dinner will be $40.00 per person (including wine).

NOTE: Those staying in on-campus accommodation who register for the Institute Dinner, will have the cost of the Friday evening college meal deducted from their accommodation account.

VISITORS

Local women who are not able to participate in the Institute courses but wish to attend Keynote addresses and/or the Institute Dinner are very welcome. For costs and other information, please contact Betty by email or by phone: 07 4772 6060. All Keynote sessions will be in the Central Lecture Theatre at JCU.

CHILD CARE

Child care will be at the participant’s own expense but options are currently being explored in an attempt to minimise costs. If you require child care, please indicate details on the registration form and forward before 21 May 2004.

SPONSORSHIP

The Winter Institute for Women is entirely self-funded so there is, at present, no facility for offering subsidies. However, there is the opportunity for those who would like to assist other women to attend by making a donation toward that end. This suggestion came from two generous participants who have already offered a sponsorship and have stipulated that their donation be for a younger feminist seriously interested in engaging with the issues. Others may want to stipulate that their preference is for sponsorship of Indigenous women or women from Non-English Speaking Backgrounds, where possible, or you may prefer your donation to be ‘general’, in which case the organising collective will use its discretion in allotting your donation.

There is provision on the Registration Form for you to indicate a willingness to donate to the sponsorship scheme. If you find you can stretch your budget to make this kind of offer, it will be much appreciated.

APPLICATION FOR ASSISTANCE

Applications for assistance under the Sponsorship Scheme can be made by completing the relevant section on the Registration Form.

LIABILITY

Participants are asked to note that the Organising Collective assumes no responsibility for accidents, theft, loss, damage or delays at the Winter Institute for Women, or loss of monies by participants in the case of industrial disruption or other circumstances outside the control of the organisers. It is recommended that participants take out their own travel and medical insurance prior to the Institute.
