WINTER INSTITUTE FOR WOMEN

"A Feminist Agenda for the 21st Century"

PROGRAM

The Organising Collective reserve the right to amend the program or to substitute speakers if circumstances dictate.

 

OVERVIEW OF PROGRAM:

Registration
Sunday 11 July, 4.00pm to 5.00pm. - Central Lecture Theatre, JCU.
Come early to register and meet other participants and Course Coordinators. Wine and cheese and entertainment provided.

Opening Session
Sunday 11 July, 5.00pm to 6.00pm - Central Lecture Theatre, JCU
Welcome and Introduction. Inaugural keynote address by Betty McLellan.

Daily Program
Each day from Monday to Saturday, courses will run from 10.00am to 12.30pm for morning sessions and from 2.00pm to 4.00pm for afternoon sessions (except for Wednesday afternoon which is free time.)

Keynote Sessions .. [Sessional Participants welcome]
Monday 12 July, at 4.30pm, Susan Hawthorne,
followed from 5.00pm to 6.00pm by special guest Jeannie Herbert.

Tuesday 13 July, at 4.30pm, Sheila Bunwaree,
followed from 5.00pm to 6.00pm by keynote address from Sheila Jeffreys.

Thursday 15 July, at 4.30pm, Eileen Pittaway,
followed from 5.00pm to 6.00pm by keynote speaker Patricia McFadden.

Special Event .. [Sessional Participants welcome]
On Friday 16 July, from 7.00pm to 9.00pm, the Winter Institute will relocate to “Mary Who” bookshop in the city for a night of book-readings and other creative offerings, featuring Gina Mercer and others. (Transport will be arranged for those staying on-campus).

Institute Dinner .. [Sessional Participants welcome]
On Saturday 17 July, from 7.00pm, the Institute Dinner will be held at St Raphael’s College. After-dinner speaker will be Ruth Busch.

Other Social Events
Some informal and relaxed social events and entertainment will be organised at times throughout the program.

Closing Session .. [Sessional Participants welcome]
Sunday 18 July, 10.00am to 12.30pm – closing session, including a panel of Keynote speakers and Course Coordinators which will consider “A Feminist Agenda for the 21st Century”.

Winter Institute for Women concludes with a farewell Lunch on the Lawn from 12.30pm to 1.30pm.

Sessional Participants

Women who want to attend on a sessional basis only are welcome to register for Keynote sessions, Book-reading at Mary Who Bookshop (Friday evening), Institute Dinner (Saturday evening) and Panel session (Sunday morning). Email Betty for costs and other information.
