TRAVEL

Most participants travelling from overseas will fly into Brisbane, Sydney or Cairns International Airports and connect with a domestic flight to Townsville. Qantas, Virgin Blue and Jetstar operate services from southern cities to Townsville, while Qantaslink operates from Cairns and other regional centres of Queensland. Direct flights from Brisbane to Townsville will take approximately 1 hour 45 minutes, from Sydney to Townsville 2 hours 30 minutes, and from Cairns to Townsville approximately 55 minutes.

On arrival at the Townsville airport (which is a regional airport and, therefore, not very complicated), make your way outside to the taxi rank or the airport bus.

The distance from Townsville airport to the CBD is 5kms. Travel time by car is approximately 10 minutes. For those staying in accommodation in the city or on Palmer Street, there is an airport bus into the City Heart ($8 one way, $14 return). Taxis are also a viable option (approximately $15 from the airport into the city).

Participants who prefer to travel by train or bus from Brisbane are urged to book early on Queensland Rail’s new Tilt Train or the Sunlander. Express bus services are available through Greyhound Australia and Premier.

If you prefer to rent a car during your stay in Townsville, all major Car Rental companies operate in Townsville, including Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Thrifty.

For local travel in Townsville, there is a City Loop bus which stops right outside the Summit venue on Palmer Street.

The Summit venue is on Palmer Street and there are several Hotels located on that street, including:

. The Southbank (adjacent to the conference venue);

. The Quest Apartments (across the road);

. The Ibis (directly opposite the venue); and

. Oaks Anchorage (serviced apartments just a short walk away).


Budget (Backpacker) Accommodation in the same area:

City Centre
5 - 10 minutes walk to the Palmer Street venue:

. Holiday Inn (just over the bridge in the city heart)
