The
City of Townsville, situated on the north-eastern coast of Australia,
is considered to be the 'Capital' of North Queensland. While Brisbane
is the actual capital of the State of Queensland, its location in
the far south east corner of the state means that Townsville has
become the hub of activities in the North.
With
a population of 160,000, Townsville is one of the larger regional
cities in Australia. After Brisbane and the Gold Coast, it is the
third largest city in Queensland.
Situated
in the tropics, Townsville has hot, humid summers and unbelievably
beautiful tropical winters. Temperatures in July typically range
from 12 to 27 degrees C (53 to 80 degrees F). While there is no
absolute guarantee of sunshine during the summit, we can say that
Townsville has over 300 days of sunshine on average each year -
and it almost never rains in July.
