INTRODUCTION
MARY DALY (1928-2010)Mary Daly, one of Second Wave feminism’s most brilliant, most courageous, most radical and, in society’s terms, most controversial figures, died in Gardner, Massachusetts, on 3 January 2010.
The Coalition for a Feminist Agenda, supported by members of the Townsville Feminist Collective, invite women from around the world, in Australia and across the local North Queensland region to come together in celebration of our sister’s life and the huge contribution she made to feminist thought and action.
Aim:
The tone of this weekend event will be celebratory. Participants will be invited to immerse themselves in the positive vision Mary had for a world in which justice was a reality.As the theme indicates, the Rage will be an event for women of all ages - from younger hags right through to older crones. Together, intergenerationally, we will delve into the writings of Mary Daly, enjoying her wit and courage, and growing in our own passion for continuing the work of bringing about justice for women in an increasingly difficult world.
While the program will be well organised, the tone will be relaxed and casual. Most of the weekend's program will consist of input from participants who submit a request for time to share their thoughts, analysis and experience as it relates to the work of Mary Daly. Venue:
The venue we have chosen is also relaxed and casual. The Queensland Government’s Sport and Recreation Centre on Magnetic Island, off Townsville, offers inexpensive accommodation as well as a meeting room to suit our needs, sporting facilities (for the energetic) and beautiful grounds where the occasional kangaroo or wallaby may pay a visit. While there is no official subsidy scheme, any donations to assist with the cost of subsidising the participation of women who are unable to finance their own travel, in particular Indigenous Australian and refugee women, would be warmly welcomed. This tropical city is the gateway to some stunning natural wonders such as the Great Barrier Reef, North Queensland rainforests and the World Heritage listed Magnetic Island. It also provides easy access to the historic inland goldfield towns of Charters Towers and Ravenswood. The city itself offers a range of cultural and entertainment activities, including the Museum of Tropical Queensland, the Great Barrier Reef Aquarium (Reef HQ), the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Centre and the Perc Tucker Art Gallery. The venue on Magnetic Island is wheelchair accessible according to State Government requirements. Participants with a disability are asked to indicate same in the space provided on your Registration Form, so that we can respond appropriately.Child Care:

Participants are asked to note that the organising collective assumes no responsibility for accidents, injuries, theft, loss, damage or delays at the Magnetic Island event, or loss of monies by participants in the case of industrial disruption or other circumstances outside the control of the organisers. It is recommended that participants take out their own travel and medical insurance prior to the weekend event.
